Now based on Long Island, Bahamas, Joe, and wife Nicola are both part of the OCA team working tirelessly towards development and the establishment of a Research and Education Facility the
OCA Adventure Center Long Island in support of the proposed 257,000-acre Marine Protected Area (MPA), known as the Long Island Marine Management Area (LIMMA).
While building our property in the Bahamas, we had the vision to build a facility that would be used for conservation research, science, education, and technology programs or as we call them CREST activities. We wanted to support and provide an opportunity to the community we loved – our home, and it became our first EShare® program driver towards building financially sustainable blue economy properties around the globe. We consider ourselves stewards of Long Islands land and sea, and believe that we have a responsibility to treat it with the highest level of care and respect’’ states Joe.
OCA’s mission contributes to
United Nations SDGs nº14 (‘life below water’), nº2 (‘achieve food security), nº7 (‘sustainable energy’), nº8 (‘decent work’), nº12 (‘sustainable consumption and production’), and nº13 (‘climate action’) as a priority. Ocean Crest Alliance is a registered US 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, and a Bahamas Registered non-profit dedicated to honor, protect and restore the health of the world’s oceans and the life of the earth’s systems.

  • Randall Sean McLaughlin, MSci

Environmental Scientist, Educator, Tech Guru

He prefers to be known simply as Sean, is an environmental scientist and conservation biologist. Part Irish-American and Costa Rican, Sean likes to educate people about the environment and how it is affected by the actions of humans. He was born in Florida but grew up in Costa Rica. As a result, he used to venture into the rainforests and observe the wildlife. One of his favorite animals were the army ants. He would follow the trails of the ants, which were usually several miles long, and observed how they created bivouacs, communicated with each other, and how they would pick up objects several times heavier than themselves. He was chased up a tree by a pack of wild boars and saved a friend from nearly getting bitten from a terciopelo, or fer-de-lance viper. He swears he once saw a black panther staring at him from deep in the woods, as twilight fell and the cat’s red eyes were unmistakable.Sean has returned to Costa Rica several times and he was dismayed by the amount of pollution being discarded in the once pristine rainforest. He found several misshapen frogs which indicated that they were exposed to toxic chemicals, that were released as by-products of manufacturing drugs.
An avid environmentalist, Sean believes that the best way to prevent our planet from a disastrous end is to educate future generations. He believes that environmental studies should be a primary component of education, as much as the three R’s. By implementing widespread emphasis on environmental awareness and causes, future generations will not only produce less pollution but they will be the scientists that stop the ills that afflict the world today.
In addition, Sean knows that indigenous people appreciate the earth more because they are the ones who work the land and oceans and use their resources wisely. By partnering with various tribes and educating them about the sciences being developed to reverse disastrous trends, these people can assist scientists with the distribution of scientific advancements and treatments. Sean loves to write and is currently writing screenplays, novels and novellas, and children’s books that focus on the plight of the earth and he hopes to inspire readers and moviegoers into taking a proactive role in environmental stewardship.
He has played many roles during his working life, from systems administration for NASA, to becoming a nationally certified Emergency Medical Technician. He believes his background in health science, environmental science and IT are all combinable along with other earth sciences to help resolve today’s and tomorrow’s environmental issues.

  • James Sandoe

Veteran Affairs, Common Defense

I’m a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran who worked in explosive ordnance disposal. After returning home, I spent 40 years in the automotive parts field and then in transportation logistics. After retiring, I became interested in environmental issues and started to study them. I am a certified climate presenter and have done over 100 climate presentations on various aspects of science and solutions.

After retirement, I spent 3 years at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection working on approved regulations as they were drafted by the agency. This is where I got into toxic chemicals. Fracking was a big issue at the time, and everyone wanted to know what toxic chemicals were in fracking fluid. Since the fossil fuel companies declared them to be trade secrets, no one really knew. It took three years, but I developed a database of over 1450 chemicals and what each does to your body upon exposure.

That experience led to my current research project, finding toxic chemicals, including PFAS (known as “forever chemicals”) on U.S. military bases. The Pentagon said they had 401 bases contaminated but wouldn’t say which ones. Over the last 10 months, I have found 402 bases with PFAS contamination and another 46 that are contaminated with other toxic chemicals. Almost 200 more are still awaiting test results.

I was excited to be able to be a part of the Ensynox advisory team and help them and be a part of cleaning up some of the environmental damage that I have been studying for the last 10 years. The science looks extremely promising and I’m anxious to see it in action.
